METALLIC PLOYGONAL HOSES

Polygonal hoses, also known as polygonal bore or interlock metal hoses, are defined by their unique polygon cross-section, which provides specific mechanical properties like high crush resistance, resistance to torsion, and moderate flexibility. They are primarily used for material handling, protective casing, and exhaust gas discharge.Key specifications vary by manufacturer and material (typically stainless steel or galvanized steel), but general parameters include:

Design and Construction

  • Structure: Made by helically winding a pre-formed metal strip into a fully interlocked profile, usually 16 to 20 sides, allowing components to slide within the interlock for flexibility.
  • Anti-Torsion Properties: Flats are built into the hose wall to provide robust resistance to torsional stress.
  • Sealing: Generally not entirely gas-tight unless a packing (like asbestos thread or copper wire, though modern alternatives are used) is incorporated. They are often used for open-ended applications like exhaust.
